God is GOOD – The Meeting Place, Nanaimo
Back in August, we received an email from Camp Qwanoes asking if we would be willing to have three Kaleo students attend and serve in our church from September to April. We were really excited at the prospect of having them join us. The only hurdle we had to overcome was getting the students from camp in Crofton to Nanaimo—about a 45 minute drive. Conversations ensued about how we could make this happen and the only viable solution we could come up with was to supply the students a car.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t an option for us as not only did we not have the funds available to purchase a car, there were issues around liability and insurance as well. Time was running short as Qwanoes wanted to have the students placed in a local church before September. After exploring various options and not finding one that worked, we regretfully had to say no.
No sooner had I hung up the phone when I received an email from a gentleman who had attended our church occasionally with his wife and young son. The email opened with, "My wife, son, and I have been coming to The Meeting Place church for the last couple of years. I can't say for sure if we've actually met, but we do enjoy the services and get a lot out of the messages. We appreciate the welcoming and casual feel of The Meeting Place.” He then went on to say, "We have a good, well maintained, used car which we recently replaced with an electric car. We've been trying to sell it for the last few months but aren't getting a lot of interest in spite of a couple of price reductions. We were talking yesterday about the possibility of donating the car to a person/family in need. Is there anyone in the church family who is having some specific struggles where our car could provide some relief?”
Wow! To make a long story short, I contacted this family and presented the idea of donating the car to Qwanoes. They were thrilled to do so and within a couple of days the transfer was complete and we now have three fantastic Kaleo students helping make a difference every week as they serve in our church.
I am humbled at how faithful God is, even in light of my own faithlessness. I’m reminded of these words from Ephesians 3:20, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”
