Northwest Seminary & College: A Message from Fellowship Pacific’s Regional Director
By now some of you may have heard the news that ACTS (Associated Canadian Theological Schools), of which Northwest Seminary is a part, is planning on moving the traditional course-based part of the seminary into a new Trinity Western School of Theology, effective May 2026.
The detailed information on this change is available at: https://nbseminary.ca/announcement-from-acts-seminary.
On behalf of Fellowship Pacific, it is important for you to know that both our Regional Staff and Regional Board are in support of the decisions of the leadership and Board of Governors of Northwest Seminary. We are appreciative of the work they have done on our behalf ensuring that a solid plan is in place, as well as guaranteeing appropriate financial decisions. Equally important, their communication with Fellowship Pacific throughout their discussions has been a great example of the valued partnership that we enjoy.
As is clearly mentioned in the communiques from Northwest, our future in training leaders is not in danger. Northwest will continue to have the graduate courses fully accredited, will move forward in their development of a new undergrad program, and pursue building our Korean program. This decision will allow us to further develop our expertise in competency based theological education. It has been clear for a number of years that this is the direction we desire to move, as evidenced by the Immerse program.
At a personal level, I am far more excited about the future than I am dismayed by transitions in ACTS. Obviously, we will mourn the loss of our relationships with our others ACTS partners. However, these changes open up a number of new possibilities for us, including the option to still team up with other families of churches – should we decide to do so. At a minimum, the door is open for the Fellowship and Northwest to pause and consider exactly what we believe the future of theological education should look like. This makes it an exciting and interesting time.
This is not a time for fear. But it is a time for prayer. We invite you to join the leadership of Northwest before the Lord. We deeply desire to be led by the Holy Spirit as we seek wisdom in the next year or two.
